AP 3D Design
All the sculptures of today, like those of the past, will end one day in pieces... So it is important to fashion one's work carefully in its smallest recess and charge every particle of matter with life.

The AP 3D Design portfolio is intended to address sculptural issues as well as ceramic ones. The course
involves using the elements and principles of design in an integrative way. In the 3-D design portfolio, students demonstrate their understanding of design principles as they relate to depth and space. The principles of design (unity/variety, balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, repetition, proportion/scale, figure/ground relationship) can be articulated through the visual elements (mass, volume, color/light, form, plane, line, texture). These issues can be explored through additive, subtractive, figurative or nonfigurative sculpture, abstraction, slip-casting, slab, pinch, coil, wheel techniques, multiples, found object, assemblage, combination of clay and other materials, and fired and unfired clay. Other materials include paper, wood, plaster, cement, wire, light, sound, found objects and any other material found fit for art production.
